From A Male Perspective

I just want everyone to know that Dad and baby are doing okay. It has been a tiring 24 hours for me but I have been able to get through it with naps in between feedings and a little Starbucks. As for my physical health, I did tweak a hammy conditioning with my basketball team yesterday and my back is sore from the hospital couch but overall, the nurses said I should make a full recovery.

A lot of you have been piling the email and texts on these last two days so I just want to let everyone know that I did not hit the ground when feeling faint during the epidural. The doctor was able to spot me while crawling back to the couch, grab me a protein bar (Zone, Chocolate Chip Mint), and get me back into the game just in time to witness Courtney start pushing. She did great throughout the 2 1/2 hours of pushing but I did notice my throat got a little dry from counting to 10 in sets of 3 every 2-3 minutes. If you are good at math you know that this equals 150 sets of counting to 10. Not bad for one night. Anyways, I took a picture of Courtney while she was pushing for those of you that are interested but it didn't show up so this but this is basically what it looked like:

During the actual pushing I was able to get little cat naps on the side of the bed. Then, when the time was right, I would tell the nurse that I had the energy for another countdown and Courtney would follow that right up with another contraction.

Not only was Courtney amazing throughout but so were the nurses. They were good at teaching me how to count, teaching Court how to push, and were always there in case the baby came out. Again, my pics of the nurses in action did not show up but this is basically what they looked like:

After it was all said and done, the energy that was put into the actual labor was well worth the wait. I thought it was pretty amazing when Kendall was born. The doctor pulled her out and set her on Courtney's chest but I was in awe of what transpired right after. However, Courtney has the official word on what actually goes into this post so I will not go into detail. Let me just tell you that years of watching the battle scenes in "Braveheart" prepared me more than any health class could have. Thanks Mel!

Anyways, I will wrap this up and let you know that everyone is doing great here during Day 2. Courtney, as could be expected, keeps everything laid back and makes it look easy while I worry about screwing things up. Kendall has taken after mom and has shown signs of being laid back as well (fingers crossed). I know that everyone would like to get an official pic on Kendall and I was able to take one when she was fresh out of the womb. As you can guess, it didn't show up (Must have been the lighting) but I was able to get something that resembled her. This should give you an idea of what our little girl looks like:

Goodbye for now and thanks for all the well wishes.

Dr. Appointment Update

I had a Dr's appointment yesterday but never got to actually see a Dr. I just met with her nurse because she was delivering a baby. She said I am 1 cm dialated (which I have been since 37 weeks) but the baby's head is very low. We talked about inducing because of Shane's basketball schedule and possibly leaving for state. I was hoping for Thursday since there is no chance Shane's team would have a game that day, but they are all booked at the hospital that day for inducing so as of right now we are going in on Wednesday at 6:00a.m. it would be great if I went into labor on my own before then...that is what I am hoping for.
Shane's team plays for the district championship tonight and if they win they are going to state and wouldn't play until next Saturday. If not, they will play on Wednesday in the next round of districts so we may decide to cancel the inducing...so for many reasons we are hoping they win tonight!

1 week until my due date...

...though not sure if that means anything. I have talked to my Dr. about getting induced next week either Wednesday or Thursday because if I go too far over my due date Shane's team may be in Yakima for the state tournament (if they make it they would leave on Tuesday March 2nd, one week after my due date). I see the Dr. again this Friday if I don't go into labor before then and see what she has to say. We are ready for her to make her appearance any day and can't wait to meet her.
I had to share some pictures of these 2 outfits that a family from our school got made just for our girl, hopefully she will get to wear them before bball season is over.

This week on the house...

More and more siding is going up every day, the insulation in finished, and sheet rock is being put in. We have spent some time the last 2 weeks meeting with flooring and tile people, taking home samples and trying to make decisions before life gets more busy with a baby. Shane has decided that he wants nothing more to do with decisions about the interior of the house because it is so overwhelming. He wants my Mom and I to make the rest of the decisions. I think if it weren't play-off time of basketball season he would care a little more, maybe come March when bball is over he will have something to say.

The skirt to the driveway got poured last week.

The fake windows above the front porch were put in.

MHS Baby Shower

On Wednesday after school the ladies from work threw a baby shower at one of their houses. It was fun getting together outside of school since we don't do that very often. They of course spoiled us with toys, diapers, homemade blankets, gift certificates, and much more!

A scrapbook made by Galina, all I have to do is insert the pictures into the pages (my kind of scrapbook). She made one for Shane a couple years ago when Andrei her son played basketball for Shane. Her scrapbooks are amazing!

January House Pictures

Here is the latest pictures of the house. A lot of inside work is being done. The insulation will finish on Monday. We have been working with the cabinet, flooring, and tile people that last week to make decisions before life gets really busy when the baby is here. We are looking forward to a 4 day weekend we have this coming weekend to take care of some more house stuff.
